Mission: Explore, Session 1
Summary
Description
Mission: Explore camp is an opportunity for young kids to explore our fields and forests and interact with the players, big and small, who make up the amazing ecosystem that is our farm.
In the 4-6 age group, groups of no more than nine kids explore the farm all week with one instructor and one volunteer. Over the course of the week, each group develops its own community and character, and instructors allow kids to follow their own passions in exploring, doing, and creating something special every day.
On one day at camp, kids may carve their names into a young zucchini, study worms with magnifying glasses and make up stories about what they are doing, and harvest beans from the teepee in the Living Playground. The next day, they may harvest potatoes, carrots and beets for a solar-cooked soup and transplant and water cabbage seedlings in a row in the fields. By the end of the week, they will be checking back on their zucchini carving to see if it has continued to grow and harvesting vegetables as a surprise for their parents.
There are limitless possibilities each day for kids to interact with the plants and critters growing around them. Mission: Explore camp is special in that each camper has a unique experience and finds opportunities to connect with the farm in his or her own way.
